El objetivo de esta investigación es explicar la relevancia del uso de la tecnología Blockchain en el comercio internacional para cerrar la brecha de financiación entre los bancos y las pyme en países emergentes. Estas pymes, enfrentan más obstáculos para la implementación de iniciativas Blockchain que sus contrapartes en países industrializados. La investigación, se enfocó en el rol de la tecnología Blockchain en el comercio internacional para superar barreras económicas, sociopolíticas y cognitivas, que se identifican como obstáculos clave en la financiación de pymes en países emergentes. El enfoque de la investigación fue de tipo cualitativo; se llevaron a cabo tres entrevistas a profundidad a directores de tecnología aplicada al negocio de 3 de los principales bancos de los Estados Unidos. Los entrevistados concluyen que el mayor obstáculo para impulsar la implementación de la tecnología Blockchain es la falta de regulación, ya que es necesario resolver el problema de estandarización legal que mitigue las brechas de seguridad de la información. Así, como sobrepasar las barreras de construcción de comunidad y la resistencia al cambio en las prácticas comerciales de las pymes para alcanzar una adopción masiva de la tecnología.
