dc.description.abstract | Since their arrival in 2007 with Facebook, social networks have had an immeasurable impact in people’s everyday life worldwide. This research paper sought to find and describe the contributions made by Instagram, Facebook and Twitter in the construction of identity of LGBTQ people in the city of Cali, Colombia, specifically young adults whose ages range between 25-35 years old, or those between the range of the designated millennial generation. Through semi-structured interviews, it was found that not only social networks had a huge impact in the subjects’ construction of identity, but it also became their main navigation tool during their formative years of adolescence and early adulthood, giving this group the opportunity to create codes and rituals unique to their social groups and in a notable way, bubbles or safe spaces where they could unfold without fear and interact with their chosen families.
