dc.description.abstractEl presente estudio tuvo como objetivo proponer y validar un modelo explicativo de la depresión o la ansiedad en jóvenes y adolescentes a partir de los planteamientos teóricos y empíricos encontrados sobre las variables. El diseño fue de tipo cuantitativo no experimental y se trató de un estudio asociativo con variables latentes, que pretendió proponer un modelo explicativo a partir de ecuaciones estructurales que permitiera evaluar y describir las variables en un grupo de adolescentes y jóvenes. Se analizaron los datos de 596 participantes colombianos cuyas edades oscilaron entre 18 y 24 años (M=21; DE=1.74; 68% mujeres y 32% hombres), la única condición para participar era saber leer y escribir. Se utilizaron la Escala Dimensional de Sentido de Vida (EDSV), La Escala para la Experiencia Espiritual Diaria (DSES), la Escala de Optimismo Disposicional (EOP) y la Escala para la Depresión, la Ansiedad y el Estrés (DASS-21). Se presenta un modelo resultante de un análisis de Sentido de Vida, Optimismo, Trascendencia, Ansiedad y Depresión de ecuaciones estructurales basado en mínimos cuadrados parciales (PLS). El modelo tuvo índices de ajuste adecuados (NFI=.84; RMSR=.06). Para el modelo final solamente permaneció la variable sentido de vida. La trascendencia no aportó significativamente a la ansiedad y la depresión, y el optimismo tuvo problemas en su modelo de medición. El sentido de vida se asoció negativa y significativamente con la ansiedad y la depresión. Los coeficientes de sendero de la variable latente sentido de vida, muestran un impacto de -.49 sobre la ansiedad y de -.71 sobre la depresión. Según los valores de R Cuadrado el sentido de vida explica el 24% de la presencia de sintomatología ansiosa y alrededor del 51% de la depresión. Los resultados encontrados presentan implicaciones para la investigación, intervención y prevención.
