| dc.description | El artículo propone estudiar las políticas públicas financiadas por la Lotería de Beneficencia Nacional en el período 1895-1932. La Lotería de Beneficencia Nacional resultó una fuente central de financiamiento estatal para inversiones sumamente variadas: para afrontar situaciones de emergencia y catástrofes, para construir inmuebles ligados a mejorar las condiciones de salud de toda la república y para promocionar grandes obras públicas tendientes a reforzar el proyecto nacional. Aquí intentaremos realizar un aporte a la renovada historiografía argentina sobre la cuestión social en la modernidad liberal, poniendo el acento en los fondos recaudados por los juegos de azar. En primer lugar, este punto de observación nos llevará a identificar las entidades financiadas por la lotería y a desglosar los mecanismos implicados en la repartición de decenas. | dc.description | This article is centered around public policies funded by the National Beneficence Lottery in the years 1895 through 1932. The National Beneficence Lottery was the main source of state funding for a wide array of investments: in response to emergency situations and catastrophes, for infrastructure related to health care practices all across the country, and to promote grand public works meant to reinforce the national agenda. Thus, we will attempt to contribute to the renewed vision Argentinean historiography offers in regards to the social aspects of liberal modernity, particularly in the matter of funds raised from games of chance. First, this viewpoint will lead us to identify the entities that were sponsored by the lottery, and break down the implied mechanisms in the distribution of tickets. And secondly, we will study the manner in which the Beneficiary Society administered these tickets. | |
