La sala de montaje ocupa el espacio del escritorio, del trabajo dubitativo sobre el corte y el detenimiento en el intervalo. La imagen detenida es un gesto fundacional del cine ensayístico que sirve para hacer más visible la materia de la imagen y, como el ralentí, para generar un suplemento de visión y de tiempo para pensarla. Ante la imagen detenida, el espectador se vuelve pensativo. Estas cuestiones nos devuelven a la forma abierta y hacia el sentido vertical con que podemos percibirla. Ante una imagen la mirada va en todas direcciones, por lo que deberíamos esforzarnos en partir de esa exploración visual, antes de escribir sobre ella.The editing suite occupies the place of the writing desk, of the doubtful work of cutting or stopping in the interval. The stopped image is a fundamental gesture in essay cinema, one which is used to make the actual material of the image more visible and, just like slow motion, it creates a supplement to vision, as well as time to think about it. Because with a stopped image, the spectator becomes thoughtful. These issues bring us back to the open form, and to the vertical way in which we can perceive them.
