dc.description.abstractIvan B. J. Rouse was born in November 1906 and has made a sterling contribution to education in Trinidad and Tobago. As a primary school student, he went through the bursary system, and was the first such student to pass the Cambridge examination syllabus. He went on to become a fully certificated teacher in 1928 after studying at the Teacher's Training College. He then took up a post as Head Teacher at Adelphi E.C. School, Mason Hall, Tobago and has the distinction of being the youngest person to serve as a head teacher. During his long and distinguished career in the educational profession he served as Manager of the St. Mary's Children's Home, President General of the Teachers' Economic and Cultural Association and as an Inspector of Schools. He was also a foundation member of the People's National Movement (PNM) and Education Officer of the Party's Constituency Group in Tacarigua. He is also an active member of the Anglican Community serving as lay reader for several years.
