This presentation discusses the key challenges and insights in the last two decades for teaching and learning in higher education. It focuses on best practices for student engagement and high impact practices, and offers a vision of fostering transformation from shallow to deep learning. It is suggested that such a scholarship must take into account the rise of digital learning technologies, student backgrounds and aspirations, and the civic role of higher education in society.
