dc.description.abstractLord Pitt (Dr David Pitt) was born in Grenada in 1913 and enjoyed a successful career in medicine and politics in San Fernando, Trinidad and Tobago, before migrating to London, England. He also practiced medicine and became the first black president of the British Medical Association. He was also a Labour member of the Greater London Council, becoming its Chairman in the mid l970s. He was made a life peer (baron) by Queen Elizabeth in 1975. He died in England in December 1994.
