dc.description.abstractThis paper studies the extent to which crowd support provides home advantage, using information from South American football leagues. To do this I exploit a natural experiment arising from the fact that in 2013 the Argentine football association prohibited the attendance of visiting crowds into football matches. I use the Uruguayan and Brazilian leagues as controls. The results suggest that the impact of the crowd on home advantage is positive and significant.
