| dc.description.abstract | Monitorear los ecosistemas costeros, en el caso de islas como la nuestra, resulta de crucial importancia ya que las zonas litorales albergan ecosistemas de alta fragilidad al ser la primera barrera ante eventos meteorológicos y, por tanto, muy sensibles a los cambios climáticos. Además, constituyen la interface entre el medio terrestre y el marino sobre el cual ejerce una marcada influencia. Un elemento importante en el funcionamiento y la estabilidad de estos ecosistemas lo constituye la biodiversidad asociada a los mismos, de ahí la importancia de su monitoreo y conservación. Dentro de esta elevada biodiversidad, destacan las aves acuáticas, las cuales utilizan las zonas de humedales, durante todas las etapas del ciclo de vida anual y, por tanto, dependen de ellas para su supervivencia. El presente libro propone un Protocolo para el monitoreo de aves acuáticas y marinas en Cuba. Monitoring coastal ecosystems, in the case of islands such as ours, is of crucial importance since the coastal zones harbor highly fragile ecosystems, being the first barrier to meteorological events and, therefore, very sensitive to climate changes. In addition, they constitute the interface between the terrestrial environment and the marine environment over which it exerts a marked influence. An important element in the functioning and stability of these ecosystems is the biodiversity associated with them, hence the importance of monitoring and conservation. Within this high biodiversity, aquatic birds stand out, which use the wetland areas, during all stages of the annual life cycle and, therefore, depend on them for their survival. This book proposes a Protocol for the monitoring of aquatic and marine birds in Cuba. | |
