| dc.description | El Museo de Arte Moderno de Buenos Aires fue creado por
Rafael Squirru en el año 1956 como parte de un plan de renovación de las
instituciones de la cultura locales, en el marco de la coyuntura socio-política
instaurada a partir de 1955 por la Revolución Libertadora. Las instituciones
fundadas en este período se vieron atravesadas por una voluntad de progreso
e internacionalización de la cultura en íntima relación con los procesos
políticos y económicos que atravesó el país. Estas voluntades estarán presentes
en muchas de las actividades propuestas por el museo, desde su primera
exposición Primera exposición fltante de cincuenta pintores argentinos que
recorrería el mundo a bordo del Buque Yapeyú entre 1956 y 1957, hasta la
exposición que inauguraría su sede en el Teatro Municipal General San Martín
Primera Exposición Internacional de Arte Moderno en septiembre de 1960.
Sin embargo, estas iniciativas se contraponen al programa de exhibiciones y
actividades considerado en su totalidad, que en términos generales promueve
una concepción ambigua de la modernidad estética y un proceso modernizador
que se instaura mayormente en los discursos del museo y no en sus acciones. | |
| dc.description | The Museum of Modern Art of Buenos Aires was created in 1956 by
Rafael Squirru as part of a renovations plan for the local cultural institutions, in
the socio-political context established by the Revolución Libertadora in 1955.
The institutions founded during that period were, in one way or another, marked
by a very strong intention of progress and internationalization of argentine
culture closely related to the economic and political processes the country
suffred during that period. These intentions will be noticeable in many of the
activities carried on by the museum in its early years, its fist show First flating
exhibition of fity argentine painters that would go around the world aboard the
Yapeyú Cruise between late 1956 and early 1957, and later, when its building
was fially fiished at the Municipal Theater General San Martín, it opened with
a show called First International Exhibition of Modern Art in September 1960.
However, these initiatives contrast with the exhibition and activities program
considered as a whole, which, in general, promotes a vague notion of aesthetic modernity and a modernization process present mainly in the form of discourse
and not actions. | |
