extractos poseen alcaloides, taninos, polifenoles y terpenoides.
extracto. ABSTRACT: This paper reports on the biological properties of aqueous extracts prepared from the skin, muscle, and
Cuvier organs belonging to Brandothuria impatiens. The specimen was dissected; its Cuvierian tubules, skin and
muscles were separated and then centrifuged, the aqueous extract cohering into the supernatant. Each aqueous
extract was tested for hemagglutinating, hemolytic, antibacterial, and antifungal activities. Compounds belonging
to different chemical families were detected in them, and trials were undertaken to test these compounds’ toxic
effects on Artemia salina. The aqueous extracts of B. impatiens revealed a hemolytic response against the human
red blood cells tested, whereas the proteins that had previously been precipitated from the extracts did not. The
extracts had alkaloids, tannins, polyphenols, and terpenoids. Saponins were present only in the aqueous extracts
of skin and muscle. The samples under study showed no hemagglutinating activity nor inhibited the in vitro
growth of the microorganisms tested, nor showed any toxic effect on Artemia salina. These results suggest that the
hemolytic activity exhibited by the aqueous extracts of skin and muscle of B. impatiens is owed to the presence of
compounds belonging to the chemical family of the saponins, whereas the lytic activity elicited by the Cuvierian
tubules extract is mediated by compounds not detected in this study, as saponins and hemolysins were not detected
in the latter extract. | |
