| dc.description | RESUMEN: Se presenta la redescripción y el nuevo levantamiento topográfico de la cueva de Chimana Grande (An. 8)
(latitud N 10°17’53,6” y longitud W 64°39’59,8”), cavidad insular, con el mayor volumen espeleométrico en
Venezuela. Ubicada en la isla Chimana Grande, al norte de la Bahía de Pozuelos, Parque Nacional Mochima, estado
Anzoátegui. Se localiza a 700 metros al noroeste de playa El Saco. Presenta ocho bocas, las cuales siete forman un
conjunto de chimeneas y claraboyas de diversos tamaños. La entrada o boca principal se ubica a unos 19,50 metros
(distancia tangencial) del borde de la isla y a 6,70 metros sobre el nivel del mar. Su desarrollo horizontal es 255,92
metros y presenta un desnivel, con relación a la boca de entrada (datum 0.0), entre –3; +14,83 metros. Precisión del
levantamiento topográfico: BCRA 4D.
ABSTRACT: A new description and topographic relief is presented of the Chimana Grande Cave (An. 8), located at 10º 17’
53.6" N and 64º 39’ 59.8" W. The cave, commanding the largest speleometric volume in Venezuela, lies 700 meters
to the northeast of El Saco Beach, on the island of Chimana Grande, to the north of Bahía de Pozuelos, within
Mochima National Park, in the state of Anzoategui. The cave features eight mouths, seven of them being sinkholes
and funnels of different sizes. The main entrance to the cave stands some 19.50 meters away from the border of the
island (tangential distance) at 6.70 meters above sea level. The horizontal track of the cave stretches 255.92 meters
and its elevation relative to the main entrance ranges from –3 to +14.83 meters. Precision of the survey: BCRA 4D. | |
