El lazareto de Agua de Dios: Ciudad de la exclusión y el estigma (1870-1924)

This document entitled “The Leprosarium of Agua de Dios: City of exclusion and stigma (1870 - 1924) " is a thesis that is part of the research: Image and city, as a requirement to attain the title of Master of Aesthetics and Art History at the University Jorge Tadeo Lozano.
The focus of the Thesis is the elaboration of a historiography of the Sanitarium Agua de Dios, located in the Department of Cundinamarca – Colombia; this study comprehends the years from 1871 to 1924 in which the following categories of analysis are used: exclusion and stigma. Under these categories an approximation and a report was written considering the Town as a whole. The study identified some of the buildings in which the following variables were considered: punishment, confinement, reclusion, supervision, concealment and shame. Analysis of constructions, photographic images and written documents that enabled revealing the dynamics given in the period and at the study site on Hansen 's disease and socio-political handling of it. The transformation of the urban fabric, organic growth of such complex sectors as Agua de Dios are not spontaneous, can only occur in the course of several decades. This, the architecture of this population formed and developed mostly by the people, rather than planners, allows a brief archeology based on diversity of use and the interaction between coatings or sectors to understand the people as whole people.
