Resumen
In Colombia, as in many countries of the world, there is an increase in the threat of contamination of the
groundwater resource caused by the growing demand of this water source in the development of
anthropic activities. In this case study, the intrinsic vulnerability of the Glacis del Quindío aquifer system
and the existing tertiary geological formations. For this analysis were used the qualitative methodologies
of index widely disseminated superposition in geoscientific knowledge such as GOD - GODS –
DRASTIC. The information used is processed through the technique called Algebra of Maps through
ArcGis software, fed with technical information compiled by the Colombian Geological Service in recent
years. From the maps obtained with the spatialization of vulnerability to groundwater contamination,
there are areas with greater or less sensitivity to pollution, with a low to moderate vulnerability prevailing
in the study area. This information will serve as input for the taking of preventive decisions on behalve
of the competent authorities in the future formulation of the Land Management Plans - POT, guaranteeing
the protection of groundwater in the Quindío department. Finally, the results were validated the results
obtained through a nitrate pollution analysis (N-NO3), from the high agricultural activity developed in
the region, which limits the use of this resource for human consumption.
