La novedad de Pedro Páramo no es sólo el tema –un muerto quien cuenta la historia desde su tumba a otra muerta– sino la voz y las historias que arrasaron a esa Sodoma-Comala, con la que se encuentra el narrador (un hijo pródigo en busca del Padre y su paraíso perdido). En ese páramo de vida enlazada a la muerte da comienzo esta novela de desencuentro y de ilusiones fallidas. La novela se concibe a partir de pequeños cuentos (setenta fragmentos), en los que comulgan sus diversos personajes. Textos trasmutables: en la novela, el final es el principio, y el principio, igual, podría ser ese final.

The novelty of Pedro Páramo is not only the theme –a dead man who tells the story from his grave to another dead– but the voice and the stories that swept Sodom-Comala that the narrator meets (a prodigal son in search of the Father and his Paradise Lost). In this wilderness of life linked to death, we have a novel of misunderstandings and failed illusions. The novel is conceived from short stories (seventy fragments) with various characters. We are in the presence of texts that are transmutable: in the novel the end is the beginning and the beginning could be the end.
