dc.descriptionSegún la filosofía personalista existen dos modos de ser persona: hombre y mujer. Como es sabido, durante mucho tiempo se dio preferencia al género masculino sobre el femenino en todos los ámbitos, terrenales y espirituales. Si alguna mujer sobresalía por su inteligencia se la ignoraba, se la acusaba de copiar o se decía que estaba instigada por el diablo, como fue el caso de santa Teresa de Jesús. Es precisamente esta santa quien ejerce gran influencia en la conversión y el desarrollo espiritual de Edith Stein, gran defensora de los derechos de la mujer en el siglo XX. Sin embargo, esa lucha se inició en la Edad Media con la llamada “querella de las mujeres”. Se han elegido tres voces femeninas para ilustrar ese debate en el que participaron: Teresa de Cartagena, santa Teresa de Jesús y sor Juana Inés de la Cruz. Este trabajo pretende mostrar que las tres autoras compartían varios aspectos: el convento, la marginación, la persecución y la producción intelectual. Usando la misma retórica empleada por los hombres de la época y el mismo razonamiento teológico de sus contemporáneos, ellas dejaron constancia de su derecho a ser escritoras por encima de cuestiones de género y de prejuicios sociales y religiosos. Con sus escritos mostraron la injusticia del trato que recibían hombres y mujeres y recriminaron a sus contemporáneos por cuestionar a Dios, ya que el argumento principal de las tres autoras era que el intelecto, masculino o femenino, se posee solo por voluntad divina. A pesar del hostigamiento que sufrieron, no dudaron en defender que hombres y mujeres son personas y que tienen los mismos derechos.

dc.descriptionAccording to the philosophy of Personalism, there are two ways of being a person: man and woman. As it is well known, for a long time preference was given to male over female gender in all spheres, earthly and spiritually. When a woman stood out for her intelligence, she was ignored, accused of plagiarism, or said she was instigated by the devil, as it happened to Teresa de Jesús. It was, precisely, this saint who had great influence on the conversion and spiritual development of Edith Stein, a fighter for the rights of women in the 20th century. However, this struggle began in the Middle Ages with the so called “quarrel of women”. Three female voices have been chosen to illustrate this debate in which they were involved: Teresa de Cartagena, Teresa de Jesús and Juana Inés de la Cruz. This work aims to show that the three authors shared several aspects: the convent, marginalization, persecution, and intellectual production. Besides, they all used the same rhetoric applied by the male of that time and similar theological reasoning; those women expressed their right to be writers beyond gender and social and religious prejudices. Their writings showed the injustice for the different treatment received by men and women and reprimanded their contemporaries for questioning God, since the main argument of the three was that intellect, male or female, is owned only by divine will. Despite the harassment they suffered, those women did not hesitate to argue that men and women are persons and are entitled to equal rights.
