dc.descriptionEl quiste dentígero es el segundo quiste odontogénico más frecuente en los maxilares, se presenta rodeando la corona de un diente retenido, afecta principalmente a los terceros molares inferiores y los caninos superiores, con mayor predilección en el sexo masculino, entre la segunda y tercera década de la vida. A continuación se describe el caso de una paciente de 11 años, que acudió al Curso de Perfeccionamiento en Cirugía Bucal de la Facultad de Odontología de la Universidad de Los Andes, referida por el odontólogo del servicio público de su localidad, por presentar tumefacción facial en la región mandibular del lado izquierdo. La lesión fue tratada a través de la técnica de marsupialización, por su extensión, relaciones anatómicas y la importante pérdida ósea. Se realizaron controles clínicos y radiográficos al primer, tercer, sexto mes y al año, evidenciándose regeneración ósea completa. Se concluyó que la Marsupialización es una opción válida en el manejo de quistes dentígeros en niños, por ser un procedimiento poco invasivo, que reduce el riesgo de daños en áreas anatómicas adyacentes, evitando defectos óseos extensos y parestesia, promoviendo la erupción del diente asociado al quiste dentígero.

dc.descriptionThe dentigerous cyst is the second most common odontogenic cyst in the jaws, it presents surrounding the crown of an impacted tooth, it mainly affects the lower third molars and maxillary canines, with greater prevalence in males, between the second and third decade of life. It is described the case of a 11-years-old patient who attended the Course in mastering Oral Surgery at the Faculty of Dentistry in University of Los Andes, after the indications of the public service dentists in his area, for presenting facial swelling the mandible on the left. The lesion was treated throughthe marsupialization technique, for its extension, anatomical relationships and significant bone loss. Clinical and radiographic controls were performed at the first, third, sixth month and after a year, showing complete bone regeneration. It was concluded that marsupialization is a valid option in the management of dentigerous cysts in childrenfor being a minimally invasive procedure that reduces the risk of damage to adjacent anatomical areas, avoiding extensive bone defects and paresthesia, promoting tooth eruption associated with the dentigerous cyst.
