| dc.description | En el transcurso del proceso de modernización de la literatura y la cultura venezolanas a fi nes del siglo XIX, la revista El Cojo Ilustrado (1892-1915) fue una importante pieza de transformación. Llama la atención ver en las páginas de este quincenario las reiteradas referencias a la moda, no solo por el volumen, sino por su sostén en el tiempo. Unas de las que más resaltan por estas características son las de la Baronesa Staffe. Esto nos llevó a proponemos revisar el uso de la moda en las publicaciones de dicha autora como ejercicio civilizatorio para la conformación de un “nuevo”ideal de mujer; más aún: esta investigación procura analizar la manera en que a partir de la autoría femenina foránea se formula un modelo de mujer “moderna” venezolana. | |

| dc.description | During the process of modernization of Venezuelan literature and culture towards the end of the 19th century, the journal El Cojo Ilustrado (1892-1915) was an important instrument of transformation. It is noteworthy to see in the pages of this fortnightly publication repeated references to fashion not only because of the volume of these references but also because they were sustained over time. The references which best illustrate these two characteristics are those made by the Baroness Staffe. We were thus led to revisit the use of fashion in the publications of this author as a civilizing exercise designed to produce a ‘’new’’ ideal of woman. And, in addition, in this study we propose to analyze the way in which a model of the ‘’modern’’ Venezuelan woman was inspired by foreign female authorship. | |
