Se despliega una mirada sobre el saber y la práctica médica desde finales del siglo XX abordando su discurso desde la ética principialista basada en la autonomía de las personas, en el principio de no maleficencia, de beneficencia y de justicia sustentados en la dignidad humana. El objetivo general es describir las características del saber y de la práctica médica de finales del siglo XX que generan el discurso de esta disciplina para lo cual se emplea una metodología de análisis de contenido de textos teóricos de varios autores. Se examina la influencia del progreso económico y científico tecnológico en el desarrollo de una praxis médica biologicista, avasalladora, poco humanitaria, fragmentaria con un discurso hegemónico que objetualiza cada vez más al enfermo.
