| dc.description | En este artículo se hace una revisión del concepto de salud desde épocas ancestrales hasta la actualidad, para intentar una síntesis de la evolución del concepto de salud a través del tiempo. A lo largo de la historia, este concepto ha estado teñido por la cosmovisión de cada cultura. El concepto de salud tiene su génesis en la visión ayurvédica. Fue visto en forma filosófica en la cultura china donde se considera que la salud, como todo lo que existe en el universo, está vinculada a un ente inmutable y eterno. En la cultura grecolatina, la salud fue objeto de reflexión de sus grandes pensadores. También en este estudio se explora la concepción mágico-religiosa mesoamericana, la visión mesopotámica y egipcia; y a los árabes y judíos como pioneros en la medicina occidental. Luego se considera el peso del modelo cartesiano en la construcción de este concepto, que no tenía en cuenta a la persona en su totalidad. En cada momento histórico se han producido importantes variaciones en la concepción de la salud y la enfermedad, los cambios más relevantes han tenido lugar en la segunda mitad del siglo XX; la Organización Mundial de la Salud ha jugado un papel significativo como ente aglutinador de las últimas tendencias en el campo de la salud. No obstante, esta concepción no es sistémica, ni holística en la mayor acepción de la palabra. En conclusión, puede decirse que, en la actualidad, suele aceptarse un concepto de salud ecológico, sistémico, dinámico y positivo, resultante de la interacción y adaptación del hombre a su medio físico y social. | |

| dc.description | This article examines the concept of health since ancestral times to the present day, in order to synthesize the evolution of the concept of health through time. Throughout history this concept has been shaped by the cosmovision of each culture. The concept of health has its genesis in the ayurvedic vision. In China it had a philosophical view, because in this culture the health has been considered — as everything that exists in the universe — that is linked to an immutable and eternal entity. In Greco-Latin culture the health was an object of reflection for great thinkers. Also in this article it is explored the magical-religious conception from Mesoamerica, the Mesopotamian and Egyptian vision, and the Arabs and Jews as pioneers of Western medicine. Then it is consider the weight exerted by the Cartesian model in the construction of this concept, which did not take into account the individual as whole. Every historical period has produced important variations in the conception of health and sickness. The most relevant changes have taken place in the second half of the twentieth century, and the World Health Organization has played a significant role as a unifying entity of the latest tendencies in the health field. Nevertheless this is not systemic conception, nor holistic in the broadest sense of the word. In conclusion, It can be stated that nowadays the health concept is generally accepted as ecological, systemic, dynamic and positive, and as resulting from the interaction and adaptation of man to his physical and social environment. | |
