Proveniencia austro-germana de los versos para órgano del Archivo Musical de Chiquitos

Abstract

Aunque se sabe que las regiones austro-germanas surtieron de música a la Antigua Provincia Jesuítica del Paraguay, no existe hasta el presente evidencia concreta que permita vincular esta vía de proveniencia al repertorio de música para teclado conservado en el Archivo Musical de Chiquitos (Concepción, Bolivia). En este trabajo demuestro que varios versos para órgano de este repertorio provienen de esas regiones centroeuropeas. En primer lugar, ellos se encuentran copiados en antologías para órgano que preservan música del otrora Sacro Imperio Romano Germánico durante el siglo XVIII. Además, parecen haber formado parte de un repertorio común de versos, utilizado en los oficios religiosos —católicos y protestantes— de las regiones austro-germanas; habrían sido importados al Paraguay en razón de su popularidad. Finalmente, presentan similitudes estilísticas con otros versos europeos usados en esos territorios desde comienzos del siglo XVIII. Que algunas obras de música religiosa hayan sido traídas a las misiones de Chiquitos desde esos lares refuerza la idea de que varios versos para órgano, de uso litúrgico en la práctica europea contemporánea, hayan llegado junto con ellas. La importación de versos estaría entonces en consonancia con la importación de Vísperas y motetes de compositores austrogermanos durante el período jesuítico.

Although it is known that Austro-German regions supplied music to the Ancient Jesuit Province of Paraguay, there is no concrete evidence to associate these European territories with the keyboard music collections preserved today in the Musical Archive of Chiquitos (Concepción, Bolivia). In this article I demonstrate that several organ verses from this repertory came from these European regions. Firstly, because they are compiled in European organ anthologies that preserve music from the Holy Roman Empire during the XVIII century. They also seem to have been part of a common repertoire of verses used in both Catholic and Protestant services in the Austro-German lands; it is reasonable to think that they were imported to Paraguay due to their popularity. Finally, they share some stylistic similarities with other verses used in these European regions from the beginnings of the XVIII century. The fact that some religious compositions have been imported from these European lands to the Jesuit Missions of Chiquitos reinforces the idea that several organ verses, for liturgical use in the contemporary European practice, have come with them. Importing verses would then be in line with the import of Vespers and motets by Austro-German composers during the Jesuit period.
