Estados Unidos-Cuba: un giro histórico que impacta sobre América Latina y el Caribe

Abstract

Los anuncios de Obama y Castro, el 17 de diciembre de 2014, concitaron la atención mundial ya que plantearon el inicio de una inédita distensión bilateral, luego de más de medio siglo de conflictos. El siguiente artículo analiza el contexto mundial y regional en el que se desenvolvieron las negociaciones, las causas que llevaron a Washington y a La Habana a plantear este giro, a la vez que las implicancias futuras, tanto para Cuba como para el resto de América Latina y el Caribe.

Obama’s and Castro’s statements, on December 17, 2014, drew world- wide attention since they showed the beginning of an unprecedented bilateral distension, after more than half a century of conflicts. The following article analyzes the global and regional context in which the negotiations were developed, the causes that pushed Washington and Havana to the distension, and the future implications for both Cuba and the rest of Latin America and the Caribbean.
