TCC (graduação) - Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina. Centro de Ciências da Saúde. Odontologia.
Nowadays, the easy access to drugs on pharmacy shelves, the increase in drug prescriptions to treat different pathologies and the increase in life expectancy has been causing side effects in patients. The metabolic alterations that occur in maxillary bones after the use of different drugs, used for a wide range of therapeutic purposes, have a direct repercussion on the bone remodeling of the jaws. This repercussion has an important implication in the orthodontic movement rate. With this in mind, a literature review was carried out to evaluate the influence of these drugs on the orthodontic movement rate. Aiming to help the dental surgeon to identify possible difficulties or easeness that will be encountered during orthodontic treatment. This knowledge can be used for a more detailed anamnesis, where the practitioner surrounds himself with one more information, helping in the initial conversation with the patient and a more precise planning, in view of possible difficulties in orthodontic movement.
