| dc.description | This paper aims to determine the degree of competition and market model in which operates the Peruvian microfinance sector, from the profit-maximizing behavior of the institutions that make up the sector. For this purpose, we use the mark-up methodology (λ) given by Bresnahan (1982) and Lau (1982), which was estimated by a system of supply and demand equations for credit with information for a panel data set of 30 microfinance institutions in the period 2001-2010. | dc.description | La presente investigación tiene como objetivo determinar el grado de competencia y modelo de mercado en el cual opera el sector de microfinanzas peruano, a partir del comportamiento maximizador de beneficios de las instituciones que conforman dicho sector. Para este propósito se utilizó la metodología del mark-up (λ) propuesta por Bresnahan (1982) y Lau (1982), por la cual se estimó un sistema de ecuaciones de oferta y demanda de créditos con información de data panel para un conjunto de 30 instituciones de microfinanzas durante el periodo 2001-2010. Los resultados sugieren que el grado de competencia predominante en el sector de microfinanzas peruano se asemeja al modelo de mercado de oligopolio tipo Cournot. | |
