As relações filogenéticas das espécies de Manettia e algumas espécies de Arcytophyllum e Bouvardia foram inferidas a partir da variação de sequências de nucleotídeos de três marcadores plastidiais (rps16, rbcl e trnL-F) e um marcador nuclear (ITS). As análises filogenéticas dos dados combinados de DNA sugerem que Manettia é monofilético e que uma provável área ancestral do gênero é a região dos Andes. Uma sinopse de Manettia para o Brasil é apresentada com 25 espécies, onde é indicado o tipo do gênero, Manettia reclinata. Além disso, é descrita uma nova espécie da Mata Atlântica de São Paulo, BrasilAbstract: Manettia is a Neotropical genus of Rubiaceae comprising species of herbaceous or shrubby plants, usually vines, distributed from Mexico, Central America, the West Indies to South America, extending south to Uruguay. A phylogenetic tree comprising species of Manettia, Arcytophyllum and Bouvardia was inferred from the variation of nucleotide sequences of three plastid markers (rps16, rbcL and trnL-F) and a nuclear marker (ITS). Phylogenetic analysis of combined DNA data suggest that Manettia is monophyletic and that the ancestral range of the genus occurred in the Andean region. A synopsis of Manettia for Brazil is presented with 25 species, where the type species of the genus is designated, Manettia reclinata.
