Nesse sentido, buscamos focalizar o Grupo Banco Mundial e os programas de ajustamento estrutural na América Latina. A escolha do período, as duas últimas décadas do século XX, fundamenta-se na grande transformação regional, caracterizada pela ruptura com o desenvolvimentismo e a ascensão do credo liberal. Além disso, sustentamos que essa transformação, em vez de produzir ganhos em termos de crescimento e bem-estar, aprofundou ás assimetrias entre os países centrais e a periferia, aumentando os constrangimentos externos para o desenvolvimentoAbstract: The general subject of this thesis is to analyse the relationship among the econorny, the political power and the external influence; in doing so, our focus goes to the World Bank Group and the structural adjustment programs in Latin America. The choice of the period, the two last decades of the twentieth century, is determined by the great transformation, characterized by the rupture with the developmentism and the liberal creed elevation.
