| dc.description | Resumo: Neste trabalho, analisamos o funcionamento dos discursos sobre a prostituição na literatura do Rio de Janeiro do século XIX, particularmente nos romances: Lucíola (1862), O Cortiço (1890) e Bom-Crioulo (1895). Visamos explorar o movimento tenso e contraditório entre a dominação ideológica e a produção de efeitos discursivos nos romances estudados. A partir do quadro teórico e analítico da Análise de Discurso, buscamos estabelecer nosso arquivo de leitura mobilizando a relação da literatura com outros domínios de saber (discursos médico e jurídico). A articulação contraditória entre os discursos do direito penal e os discursos da medicina higienista constituem um ponto central na leitura dos romances analisados. Em outros termos, nosso objetivo central é discutir o investimento do saber moderno oitocentista sobre as formas como a prostituta e a prostituição são significadas na literatura. Observamos uma dupla regularidade nesse arquivo: a oposição entre "mulheres honestas" e "mulheres públicas" inscreve a "mulher" em um universo semanticamente normal; a prostituição em sua relação com a sexualidade dita "desviante" é significada como degenerescência física e moral, isto é, uma "doença social". | dc.description | Abstract: In this dissertation, we analyze the functioning of the discourses about the prostitution in the literature produced in Rio de Janeiro during the second half of the 19th century, particularly in Lucíola (1862), O Cortiço (1890) and Bom-Crioulo (1895). We aim to explorer the tense and contradictory movement between ideological domination and productions of discursive effects on those novels. Based on the theoretical and the analytical framework of the materialistic Discourse Analysis, we intend to establish our archive mobilizing the relation of the literature with other knowledge domains (medical and juridical discourses). The contradictory articulation between discourses of penal law and discourses of hygienic medicine constitutes a focus on our reading of novels analyzed. In other words, we discuss how the modern knowledge of 19th century invested the meaning of prostitute and prostitution in the literature. We examine a double regularity in that archive: the opposition between "honest women" and "`public women¿ (prostitutes)" inscribes the "woman" in a semantically normal universe; the political framing of the prostitution in its relation with the called "abnormal" sexuality is meant as a physical and moral degeneracy, i.e., a "social malady".
