The use of animals in laboratories for medical or academic purposes is a very controversial issue there are over 10 years. The use of animals with academic goals is a common practice that has been criticized by many institutions and people who do not understand the need to perform certain practical lessons with animals. Currently in Brazil, students may refuse to take classes that use animals in classrooms. Many teachers already use alternative material in their neuroscience classes. Presenting it in place of animal use and this was well accepted by the students who saw great potential in this method, because unlike what happens with the use of the animal in the video or software can to review in detail the experiment, even after completion of classes. Thus, better assimilation of knowledge is transmitted, favoring not only students but also teachers and laboratory technicians involved, it becomes a more dynamic and less traumatic activity. © 2015, Universidade Federal de Sao Paulo.
