Objective: Analyze the association between the level of physical activity and mood states in patients with breast cancer treated with curative intent. Methodology: Three hundred and fifty-four women were interviewed who fulfilled the inclusion and exclusion criteria, and signed the terms of free and informed consent. The Profile of Mood States (POMS) was used for the analysis of mood states and the Baecke questionnaire was used to measure the level of physical activity. The characterization of the sample was based on descriptive statistics (mean, standard deviation, median and percentage). The level of physical activity according to Baecke score was categorized in tertiles and was considered an independent variable. A means test with the scales of POMS was performed. For the association between physical activity level by Baecke score and POMS scales, we performed the t test and ANOVA for test of means. There was error á = 5% for all tests, i.e., the results were considered statistically significant when p <0.05. Results: When comparing the mean score in POMS according to the Baecke physical activity divided into tertiles, we note an association between physical activity with vigor (p <0.001) and fatigue (p = 0.019). Conclusion: Physical activity was a factor related to better mood states in women with breast cancer treated with curative intent. © Copyright Moreira Jr. Editora.
