Reflecting on the education of mathematics teachers, we highlight the contributions of the teaching and learning of statistics for the insertion of university students into mathematics teachers' communities of practice and the perceptions of this community regarding its social meanings. This subject is important, since the mathematics teacher's practice involves the practice of the educator as well as some practices of mathematicians and statisticians, among others. A salient point in this insertion is the complementary form of exploring the problems, adopting or not a practice of validation based on the original problem and its social evaluation. 22 32 47 60
