Resumen
The importance of adult education (AE) is growing worldwide. It is important that curricular proposals for statistics education in the context of AE work from a literacy perspective, taking into account current demands in literacy practices, considering the characteristics, the interests, and lives and livelihoods of people. Towards this goal, we present part of a Masters research project developed with adult 7th grade students in a public school in the state Sao Paulo with the objective of analyzing and understanding the teaching and learning of statistics in AE Mathematics classes. This paper describes students' processes of constructing tables from raw data derived from 115 questionnaires that they themselves had developed and applied. This phase of the work suggests that table production, itself a component of statistical literacy, is not spontaneous and needs to be explored in classes, highlighting the literacy generally constituted in the process. This paper also seeks to show how the students' work went beyond knowledge of mathematics and statistics, and that mathematical knowledge as an element of support for statistics literacy and knowledge construction. 24 40 637 658
