Resumen
The objective of this paper is to study changes in the fruit and vegetable distribution system in Brazil in previous years and the role that could be played by Public Supply Centres. Food supply is essential for securing access to and availability of food in cities. The paper will consider problems concerning the CEASA since the disruption of the National Supply Centres System (SINAC), and those regarding globalisation in the food industry. The paper was written in 2010 based on gathered secondary data and semi-structured interviews conducted on important actors in the distribution of fruits and vegetables. As one of the conclusions, it states that there is still room for a public role in food supply focused on supply centres and based on the principles of Food Security. 9 69 195 220
