Resumen
The objective of this article is to contribute to the History of Mathematical Education in Brazil, with the object of inquiry being the Salesian institution Liceu Coracao de Jesus of Sao Paulo, from its origins until 1929. Salesian educational practices, the way of teaching mathematics, the text books produced, and the objectives of the mathematics in the relation to the principle of "forming good Christians and honest citizens", contributed to the education of of generations of youth, including mathematics teachers. The study verified the movement of a school primarily for vocational education toward a more introductory education, fruit of the educational reforms of the time and socio-economic relations, cultural relations between the State, Church and Society. Through the combined use of printed and iconographic sources, we sought to construct a story that recreates this non-lived reality, but whose marks are present to this day. 23 35 241 268
