In this article, it is our intention to carry out a philosophical-methodological problematization concerning some problems that appear for the researcher who decides to take "sociocultural practices" as the central unit of analysis in the situated activity of scientific-academic research in the history of mathematics education. For this, as an example, we will refer to the memory of the development of the research entitled "A study on the process of obsolescence of a cultural practice: the casting out nines" - carried out in co-authorship with Eliana da Silva Souza.
