Experimental data and calibrated simulations for an enhanced wavelength converter based on semiconductor optical amplifiers cross-gain modulation are presented. Theoretical results for spectral components along the SOA cavity are discussed and a nonhomogeneous bias current injection profile is suggested with an improvement of 4 dB in the XGM wavelength converted eye-opening.
