Roller pumps play an important role in extracorporeal blood circulation. However, pump occlusion must be properly performed and be adjusted mainly by the static and the dynamic methods. Our objective is to show preliminary results of the use of an auxiliary device for roller pump calibration via the dynamic method. Simultaneous tests have been carried out with the auxiliary device and a commercial data acquisition board and three disposable pressure transducers. The device has been also tested by perfusionists during the XXVIII Congresso Brasileiro de Circulação Extracorpórea. A roller pump and needed accessories for calibration via both the static and the dynamic methods have been made available to 56 perfusionists that were asked to calibrate the roller pump as they normally do in their hospital service. After each regulation the respective mean pressure of dynamic calibration was measured with our device. Results: A comparison between our device and the commercial data acquisition board has shown statistical equality for the adjusts of dynamic calibration pressure ( p > 0.05). The mean of the 56 measurements of dynamic calibration pressure was 434 ± 214 mmHg (mean ± standard deviation) and variation coefficient was VC = 49.2 %. Our results have shown that the constructed device may be used by perfusionists to quickly adjust roller pumps with great precision and repeatability. Careful tests may be initiated with our device in operating room. © 2013 Springer.
