Distribution Of Soccer Players Of The Brazilian Teams By Month Of Birth [distribuição Do Mês De Nascimento Dos Jogadores Das Seleções Brasileiras De Futebol]

Objective. The aim of this study was to analyze the distribution of birth month of players invited to the Brazilian soccer team in all categories. Method. Therefore, the sample consisted of 167 football players invited to the Brazilian team categories of Sub-14, Sub-15, Sub-16, Sub-17, Sub-18, Sub-19, Sub-20 and main team. Only the athletes who took part in the latest convening list of each category and listed on the official public domain website of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) in June 2010 were considered. The subjects were separated according to the categorization of chronological age periods, 1st quarter (1st QDT), young people born between January and April; 2nd quarter (2nd QDT), young people born between May and August and 3rd quarter (3rd QDT), young people born between September and December. To compare the distribution found in the four-month period of each category, a nonparametric chi-square (X2) test was used. The level of significance adopted was P<0.05. Results. The results demonstrate that in all categories up to the Sub-18 show a greater number of athletes were selected who were born in 1st QDT, compared to 2nd QDT (P<0.05). In the Sub-18 category, the number of selected among those born in the 1st QDT and 2nd QDT was similar (P>0.05). It should be emphasized, however, that a smaller number of athletes selected were found for those born on the 3rd QDT compared 1st QDT and 2nd QDT in all base categories (P<0.05). Regarding the athletes of the main team, it was found that there were no significant differences between the number of athletes selected in the 1st QDT, 2nd QDT and 3rd QDT (P>0.05). Conclusion.
