Soluble high-molecular weight polysilanes represent a class of silicon-based polymers that has been receiving considerable scientific attention. In a preceding article we described a general synthesis for poly(dimethylsilylene-co-diphenylsilylene) with variable compositions. In this work, we report the electronic absorption spectra of these soluble copolymers, which were analyzed as a function of MW and composition. Long wavelength absorption bands were obtained even for very low molecular weight copolymer fractions, with high SiPh2 content.
