Resumen
The use of porous bioresorbable scaffolds in the field of tissue engineering represents an alternative for the treatment of lesions and losses of biological tissues. This work evaluates the leaching salt effect of two different processes and polymers. Dense and porous scaffolds were prepared with poly(epson-caprolactone) (PCL) and poly(D,L-lactic acid-co-glycolic acid) (50/50) (PLGA50) by casting and melting compression process. Sodium citrate with particles sizes of 180-250 μm of diameter was used as porogen. The dense and porous samples were immersed in distilled water for 30 hours and evaluated for pH and mass variations, by scanning electronic microscopy (SEM), differential scanning calorimetric (DSC) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The results of the analyses showed that the inclusion of the salt and leaching process did not affect the properties of the scaffold, indicating that the method is useful to make porous scaffolds to be potentially used in tissue engineering. 11 1 75 80 Kulkarni, R.K., Pani, K.C., Leuman, C., Leonard, F., Polylactic acid for surgical implants (1966) Archives of Surgery, 93, pp. 839-843 Avgoustakis, K., Pegylated poly(lactide) and poly(lactide-co-glycolide) nanoparticles: Preparation, properties and possible applications in drug delivery (2004) Current Drug Delivery, 1 (4), pp. 321-333 Waksman, R., Biodegradable stents: They do their job and disappear (2006) Journal of Invasive Cardiology, 18 (2), pp. 70-74 Temenoff, J.S., Mikos, A.G., Review: Tissue engineering for regeneration of articular cartilage (2000) Biomaterials, 21, pp. 431-440 Griffith, L.G., Naughton, G., Tissue Engineering-Cuffent Challenges and Expanding Opportunities (2002) Science, 295 (8), pp. 1009-1014 Vert, M., Li, S., Garreau, H., New insights on the degradation of-bioresorbable polymeric devices based on lactic and glycolic acids (1992) Clinical Materials, 10, pp. 3-8 Middleton, J.C., Tipton, A.J., Synthetic biodegradable polymers as orthopedic devices (2000) Biomaterials, 21, pp. 2335-2346 Ferreira, B.M.P., Zavaglia, C.A.C., Duek, E.A.R., Film of PLLA/PHBV: Thermal, morphological, and mechanical characterizatio (2002) Journal of Applied Polymer Science, 86, pp. 2898-2906 Barbanti, S.H., Zavaglia, C.A.C., Duek, E.A.R., Porous and dense poly(L-lactic acid) membranes: In vitro degradation (2002) Acta Microscopica, 11 (1), pp. 85-89 Mikos, A.G., Temenoff, J.S., Formation of highly porous biodegradable scaffolds for tissue engineering (2000) Journal of Biotechnology, 3 (2), pp. 114-119 Barbanti, S.H., Santos Jr, A.R., Zavaglia, C.A.C., Duek, E.A.R., Porous and dense poly(L-lactic acid) and poly(D,L-lactic acid-co-glycolic acid) scaffolds: In vitro degradation in culture medium and osteoblasts culture (2004) Journal of Materials Science: Materials in Medicine, 15, pp. 1315-1321 Eldsäter, C., Erlandsson, B., Renstad, R., Albertsson, A.-C., Karlsson, S., The biodegradation of amorphous and crystalline regions in film-blown poly(ε-caprolactone) (2000) Polymer, 41, pp. 1297-1304 Lam, K.H., Nieuwenhuis, P., Esselbrugge, H., Feijen, J., Dijkstra, P.J., Schakeraad, J.M., Biodegradation of porous versus non porous poly(L-lactic acid) films (1994) Journal of Materials Science: Materials in Medicine, 5, pp. 181-193 Mikos, A.G., Sarakinos, G., Leite, S.M., Vacanti, J.P., Langer, R., (1993) Laminated three-dimensional biodegradable foams for use in tissue engineering, 4 (5), pp. 323-330. , 14 Hou, Q., Grijpma, D.W., Feijen, J., Porous polymeric structures for tissue engineering prepared by coagulation, compression moulding and salt leaching technique (2003) Biomaterials, 24, pp. 1937-1947 Li, S., Hydrolytic degradation characteristics of aliphatic polyesters derived from lactic and glycolic acids (1999) Journal of Biomedical Materials Research, 48 (3), pp. 342-353 Sung, H.-J., Meredith, C., Johnson, C., Galis, Z.S., The effect of scaffold degradation rate on three-dimensional cell growth and angiogenesis (2004) Biomaterials, 25, pp. 5735-5742 Agrawal, C.M., Athanasiou, K.A., Technique to control pH in vicinity of biodegrading PLA-PLGA implants (1997) Journal of Biomedical Materials Research (Applied Biomaterials), 38, pp. 105-114 Barbanti, S.H., Zavaglia, C.A.C., Duek, E.A.R., Degradação acelerada de suportes de poli(e-caprolactona) e poli(D,L-ácido láctico-co-ácido glicólico) em meio alcalino.
