An experimental study shows that an open-ended circular waveguide with a very sharp cone-shaped flanged termination is a practical realization for obtaining results approaching those from the exact solution of Weinstein for a waveguide with infinitesimally thin walls. An optimal performance of this antenna is shown for aperture diameters approaching one wavelength.
