A system tor condnuous flow analysis In which the sample Is Introduced in the flow manifold between two air bubbles Is described. The characteristics of the system were evaluated hi the absence of chemical reactions and have shown that the proposed approach can be employed for determinations that require long residence times. The system was tested In the spectrophotometric determination of ammonia, phosphorus, and chromium(VI). The results demonstrate that the proposed system can replace the classical segmented continuous flow analysis or flow injection analyste in many determiniation with advantages In sampling rate, sensitivity, and reihert and sample consumption. The detection limits for determination of ammonia, phosphorus, and chromlum(VI) are 5, 20, and 3 ng·mL-1, respectively at 99.7% confidence level. The precision Is better than 1 % for all determinations and samples can be Introduced at rates of 120 per hour or more. © 1985 American Chemical Society.
