Resumen
The present invention relates to the modification of the bio inert nature of surfaces formed by all phases of alumina, sapphire, boehmite, and other aluminum oxyhydroxides, as well as of metallic aluminum, into biocompatible by means of the reaction of dicarboxylic acids with the surface of these materials. The modified surface shows biocompatibility by forming a calcium phosphate coating when a put in contact with a body fluid or with simulate body fluids or solutions containing calcium and phosphate ions. The invention refers to biocompatible prostheses, implants, and other objects forms by all phases od alumina, sapphire, boehmite, and other aluminum oxyhydroxides, as well as of metallic aluminum. The invention represents a simple, fast, and low-cost method for modifying the bio inert nature of the surfaces described in this invention into totally biocompatible, rendering biocompatible prostheses, implants, and other object having this composition and/or surface.
