| dc.description | Antecedentes. La cultura andina, rica en saberes ancestrales, es practicada en el cantón Cuenca, donde sus habitantes acuden comúnmente a la medicina ancestral, profundamente arraigada en sus creencias y tradiciones.
Objetivo. Describir las perspectivas actuales sobre las prácticas de la medicina ancestral andina en Cuenca, Ecuador.
Metodología. Es un estudio cualitativo, fenomenológico. Se realizaron tres grupos focales, cuyos participantes se seleccionaron mediante muestreo por conveniencia. La información obtenida se colectó mediante entrevistas semi-estructuradas y observaciones no participativas, previamente realizadas. El conjunto fue transcrito y luego codificado utilizando el software Atlas.ti. Las unidades hermenéuticas y de significación fueron analizadas, generando categorías y subcategorías.
Resultados. Dos categorías se identificaron: Medicina Ancestral Andina e Integración de la medicina ancestral en el Sistema de Salud. Las subcategorías para la primera son: uso, efectividad, limitaciones, ventajas y, para la segunda: semejanzas, diferencias, posibles formas de integración.
Conclusiones. Los usuarios prefieren la medicina ancestral frente a la occidental debido a su fácil acceso y bajos costos, además se identifican culturalmente al buscar solución a sus padecimientos espirituales. La integración de la medicina tradicional al Sistema Oficial de Salud, es factible, pero para ello se requiere que usuarios y médicos tengan conocimiento sobre los procesos de sanación ancestrales y sobre las plantas medicinales. Además, se requiere la creación de un ente normativo, regulador, que valide su efectividad y establezca sus limitaciones. | |
| dc.description | Background. The Andean culture, rich in ancestral knowledge, is practiced in the Cuenca Canton, where its inhabitants commonly use ancestral medicine, deeply rooted in their beliefs and traditions.
Aim. Describe the current perspectives on the practices of Andean ancestral medicine in Cuenca, Ecuador.
Methodology. This is a qualitative, phenomenological study. Three focus groups were conducted, whose participants were selected by convenience sampling. The information obtained was collected through semi-structured interviews and non-participant observations, previously carried out. The set was transcribed and then encoded using the Atlas.ti software. Hermeneutical and signification units were analyzed to generate categories and subcategories.
Results. Two categories were identified: Andean Ancestral Medicine and Integration of ancestral medicine in the Health System. Subcategories of the first one are use, effectiveness, limitations, advantages, and, for the second one: similarities, differences, possible forms of integration.
Conclusions. The users prefer ancestral medicine above Western medicine due to its easy access and low costs. In addition, they culturally identify themselves with it when looking for a solution to their spiritual sufferings. Integration of traditional medicine into the Official Health System is feasible but it requires that users and doctors have knowledge on ancestral healing processes and medicinal plants. Also, the creation of a standardizing, regulatory entity that validates their effectiveness and establishes its limitations, is needed. | |
