dc.descriptionEn el cantón Portovelo, la principal actividad que genera ingresos económicos es la explotación de minas y canteras con el 38,9% según el Censo de Población y Vivienda del año 2010. La ejecución de estas labores trae consigo emisiones de gases contaminantes y material particulado a la atmósfera, descargas de relaves a los ríos y generación de residuos sólidos. La presente investigación consistió en establecer una línea base de contaminación del aire por material particulado sedimentable en 12 sitios del casco urbano del cantón Portovelo y determinar el contenido de metales pesados en 5 muestras seleccionadas homogéneamente, con el fin de interpolar espacialmente y analizar estadísticamente los resultados obtenidos. Los análisis del material particulado sedimentable indican que 11 sitios de monitoreo superan el límite máximo permisible estipulado en el Acuerdo Ministerial 097-A de 1mg/cm2*30dias; mientras que, haciendo referencia a las directrices de la Organización Mundial de la Salud, todos los sitios analizados superan el límite máximo permisible de 0,5mg/cm2*30dias. Así mismo, los resultados reportados de metales pesados demuestran que, en el sector de El Pache, concentraciones de arsénico, cadmio, mercurio y plomo superan en más del 90% a lo encontrado en la zona céntrica del cantón.
dc.descriptionIn the canton of Portovelo, the main activity that generates economic income is the exploitation of mines and quarries with 38.9% according to the Population and Housing Census of the year 2010. The execution of these tasks brings with it emissions of polluting gases and particulate matter to the atmosphere, discharges of tailings to the rivers and generation of solid waste. The present research consists in establishing an air pollution baseline by sedimentary particulate matter in 12 sites of the urban center of the canton of Portovelo and determine the heavy metal content in 5 homogeneously selected samples, in order to spatially interpolate and to analyze statistically the obtained results. Analyzes of the sedimentary particulate matter indicate that 11 monitoring sites exceed the permissible maximum limit stipulated in Ministerial Agreement 097-A of 1mg/cm2*30 days; while referring to World Health Organization guidelines, all the sites analyzed exceed the permissible maximum limit of 0.5mg/cm2*30 days. Likewise, the reported results of heavy metals show that in El Pache sector, concentrations of arsenic, cadmium, mercury and lead exceed by more than 90% the found in the central zone of the canton.
