The present work had as objective to compare the performance of an model reference adaptive controller and a PID for a reductor converter of type Buck. The work begins with a rigorous analysis of the dynamics of the converter plant and an approximate model of second order is proposed. The methodology for the design of an adaptive controller by reference model for the second order plant in continuous time is shown, taking into account the performance characteristics proposed by the reference model. By means of simulation the parameters of the adaptive controller were optimized. For practical implementation and simulation, the controller was discretized using the zero-order hold method. In the same way, the classical PID controller was designed and discretized using the poles and zeros cancellation technique. The microcontroller chosen for the coding of the controller has been the dsPIC30F4011. The research methodology used was the empirical-analytic. For the demonstration of the hypothesis the experiment was designed to determine which of the two controllers reacted better against the charge change in the reducing converter, taking the mean square error as the metric. After performing several tests an average of 85mV was obtained for the PID controller and a mean of 109.8mV for the adaptive controller, were it was determined that the PID controller reacts better to the parameter change as long as the point of consignee is maintained. Finally, an investigation is recommended to implement in parallel the two controllers and thus add their benefits.
