Resumen
The objective was to design and construct a prototype batch reactor to obtain compost
with organic residues generated at Escuela Superior Politecnica de Chimborazo, for
which experiments were carried out on prototypes, which were metallic and plastic tanks
of 30 and 200 L respectively. By means of the characterization of the raw material, it was
possible to determine a relation C/N = 32.54, which determined the appropriate
proportions to be used, being organic residues from the Polytechnic Dining room and 4:
1 pruning residues respectively (RSOV = 54.43 Kg and Pruning = 13.61 kg), with this
proportion and with a periodic monitoring, a suitable medium was determined that
simulates aerobic characteristics controlling the process parameters such as: temperature,
pH, humidity and electrical conductivity, and to determine the process variables to control
in the equipment, which are: the turning, aeration and elimination of leachate.
Emphasizing these aspects, a compost was obtained, which was characterized, resulting
in that the product is within the parameters based on the Environmental Standard for the
Federal District NADF-020-AMBT-2011 of Mexico and also the standard NCh2880
ruled in Chile, which regulate the quality of it, since Ecuador has no rules. It was
constructed and proceeded to the validation of it by the elaboration of compost, with the
same parameters mentioned in previous experiments, which has indicated that the reactor
to elaborate compost works properly, since its performance and efficiency have been the
most optimal due to it will be widely used in the institution. It is recommended that for
further experiments in the equipment, respective analyzes are carried out previously to
determine suitable formulations of substrate to be treated.
