dc.description.abstractAnalysis and proposal for improving reliability of the control platform PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) ControlLogix 5000 of the power plant Wartsila Vasa 32 located in Yuralpa Block 21, in the city of Tena Napo province; the current conditions of the system are obtained, verifying that the reliability is low and needs to be updated to maintain the power generation plant in optimum operating condition. The physical architecture of the system PLC, is turned into reliability diagrams RBD (Reliability Block Diagrams), and starts from cards in each rack and solving diagrams to reach the overall reliability of the system. To implement the RBD diagrams is necessary to take each rack from the system to serial parallel blocks and it is solved by applying characteristics equations. Hot stand by redundancy equations are applied to solve the RBD CFA901 PLC and the parallel configuration k-out-of-n resulting from the operational necessity for the operation of the generating units at the plant. The PLC systems are robust and do not have many flaws, therefore, the MTBF (Mean Time Between Failures), whose data are used to calculate the reliability of each component. According to the evaluation of the control platform PLC at 13 years of operation, it is concluded as a result that the reliability of 0.317288834 is low, since through the probabilistic model is evident that in any component decreases over time, even though it has not failed during the study period; therefore it is recommended to change the obsolete items and 1794-IRT8 rack cards CFE0_1 FLEX I/O A2 of the entire control platform; and in these conditions the reliability of the total system is calculated at 14 years of operating, checking improving system reliability to 0.713425971.
