Resumen
The purpose of the research was to apply a mathematical model to determine the
atmospheric pollutant diffusion under physical and meteorological conditions of
Riobamba. For this, it was necessary to use the Gaussiano mathematical model that is
the same time it allows calculating the concentration of this pollutants at ground level.
The determination of atmospheric pollutants was carried out through an ISCLT –based
program ISCLT (Industrial Source Complex Short Time), this model is approved by the
EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) and distributed for free. This model is used for
calculating average concentrations at ground level in monthly, quarterly and annual
periods from the reception of source meteorological data and conditions in the area. The
results are: maximum concentrations in the south west part of Riobamba, this
concentrations were compared with the existing norms. It is concluded that the spread
of pollutants is principally directed towards the south west due to the physical and
meteorological conditions of the city. It is recommended to use these data as a base for
controlling the air quality in Riobamba.
