Resumen
This study determined the Hospital Malnutrition prevalence at the Hospital Pablo
Arturo Suarez of Quito. The study design was cross-sectional with a non experimental technique, evaluating the nutritional status of 150 patients over 18 years of sexes, internal medicine, general surgery and traumatology. It was performed to those only with a hospital stay longer than 24 hours. The data were obtained by medical record review, direct interview, and subjective global assessment through forms. For data analysis the JMP statistical software version 5.1. was used. Patients who were tested had an average age of 50 years, mostly female by 62%, residents in the province of Pichincha located in a low social predominated level. The prevalence of malnutrition in patients was 27%. The average length of hospital stay was 5 days. 60% of patients received an acceptable quality of care. Patients with malnutrition had mostly gastrointestinal symptoms. It was concluded that the prevalence of malnutrition at the Pablo Arturo Suarez Hospital was 27%. There is an important relationship between the patient's
nutritional status, age, and days of hospitalization, and the differences were
statistically significant. It is recommended that the nutritional team and the health personnel stay in permanent vigil to recognize early and timely patients on risk in order to take contingency measures to avoid more complications.
